Glass Sculptures

Today after more than 11 years teaching, making decorative panels and participating in some interior design projects, Mina Taghizadeh invented a new fantastic and mesmerizing pathway in painting on glass named “glass sculptures”.

Firstly, she started to sketch 2D. After that, by breaking the shapes, 3D designs were created. Lastly, modern and abstract forms were created by Plexiglas.

The subject of these sculptures made by Mina is folklore dance and music of some provinces in Iran. Despite this selected subject is inspired by Iranian arts, it can be hugely popular and have universal appeal.

Also, the paintings are on the subject of Iranian dance and music. All these works are simplified with traditional designs of Iranian carpets, rugs and tiles with minimal designs. The designs of all the works are freehand.

Mina Taghizadeh has participated in the 2024 “World Art Dubai 2024” with 19 works, including 15 paintings and 4 glass sculptures.

Glass Sculptures

Mermaid

The lines of the Mermaid sculpture are much more broken than the rest of the designs, so we may not be able to understand what exactly this woman is doing. This sculpture is a compilation of a woman, dressed in Balochi needlework clothes, playing a Setar (a stringed instrument). It has been tried to show even tiny mirrors on these clothes in all parts of her clothes. Because of the fish-shaped forms on this figure, it feels like we see a mermaid. The flexibility, softness and curved lines that are woven together evoke the feeling of waves, sea and fish.

Bloom

In the Bloom sculpture, we can see a woman playing Ney (an instrument like flute). It is combined with designs of Persian carpets and spring blooms. The coloring and shape of this work, due to the positive and negative parts of this sculpture (parts of Plexiglas that are cut and empty are the negative parts), make it different from the other three sculptures. In the upper body, we can see almost only the face and hands and the rest of the space is negative. In the lower part of the work, winding forms that are sunk into each other and an upward rotating movement are displayed. In this work, I have tried to induce a sense of happiness and freshness. In fact, this female musician is telling good news.

Immigrant song

Immigrant song sculpture is a combination of a Tanbur (a stringed instrument) player with bird-shaped forms and patterns of Iranian rugs. Because the forms in this work are completely broken and irregular, we may not get a good understanding at first glance. But with more precision and gradually, we can find the anatomy of the body and the mechanism. In this work, the curves of the lines have been tried to be along each other, and the aim was not to make the viewer see the figure in an orderly manner and clearly. Immigrant song shows the mood of a musician. In addition, this work has a sense of sadness for me. When the musician is far from his love and wants to link himself to the place that he likes by his culture and authenticity.

Growth

In Growth sculpture, we see a man playing Kamancheh (an Iranian bowed string instrument). Compared to the other three sculptures, Kamancheh can be seen more in this work. There are fewer breaks in this work, but the sense of growth and the sense of release from playing the instrument in this musician seems to help him fly. It is felt that the musician is getting further away from the ground every moment and is separated from his body. Showing our immaterial soul of this work was very important for me.
